Fiji Weather
The Fiji Climate is tropical, with warm, dry winters and hot, more humid, summers. Although the weather is less predictable in summer, with the chance of occasional heavy tropical rain, many prefer this time of year as it is warmer, there are a greater number of flowering trees and shrubs in full bloom, and excellent discounted accommodation packages can be taken advantage of.
Rainfall Rainfall is higher in summer than in winter. Cyclones can occur during the summer, but are not a frequent phenomenon and resorts and hotels are well-equipped should a cyclone occur. If you are traveling to Fiji in the summer months, it can be advisable to take out travel insurance in case of flight delays etc. Just as an added protection.
Trade Winds. During the cooler, winter months (peak season), the winds blow from the south-east. During the hotter, summer months, the winds blow from the north-west and can bring intermittent, heavy tropical showers.
Temperature ranges in Fiji are very enjoyable, with little daily variation or annual variation. Temperatures can go as low as 18 deg C at night in winter, and as high as 30 deg C in the middle of a summer's day. It never seems too hot or too cold! Humidity in the summer months can make it feel hotter than it really is, but most hotel and resort accommodation is designed to catch the cooling breezes, offer ceiling fans, and air-conditioning is widely available at many places. A light sweater or wrap is advisable if you are visiting in the winter months (peak season) as it can get a little cool in the evenings.
